F

Foundation School

Category: Type of Establishment. In Foundation schools the governing body is the employer and the admissions authority. The school's land and buildings are either owned by the governing body or by a charitable foundation.

Foundation Special School

Category: Type of Establishment. A Foundation Special schools is a special school equivalent of the mainstream Foundation school catering wholly or mainly for children with statutory statements of special educational needs.

Free School Meals

Number of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals.

Fresh Start

A school is given a 'Fresh Start' when it is closed and reopened on the same site under the normal school reorganisation procedures. Schools eligible for Fresh Start must be in Special Measures, serious weaknesses, subject to a formal LA warning or (for secondary) achieving less than a 15% rate of pupils gaining at lest 5 A*-C GCSEs over three years from March 2000.

Further Education (FE) Colleges

Category: Type of Establishment. An FE College is an educational institution, eligible for the receipt of public funding through the Learning Skills Council, which deals with the delivery of a full range of full and part-time vocational and academic provision, principally to those above the age range of compulsory education.
